Jasprit Bumrah might not play in the 2023 ODI World Cup

Due to a back injury, the leading Indian pace bowler has been absent from competitive cricket since September of 2022.

India’s star fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, may not be able to play in the 2023 ODI World Cup due to a back injury that has kept him out of action since September 2022. He has already missed several matches, including the T20 World Cup and the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) and World Test Championship final.

The BCCI medical staff has suggested surgery to ensure his recovery for the World Cup, but this would mean he would also miss the Asia Cup. Bumrah’s return is uncertain, and he may take up to six months to recover.

BCCI to make a decision shortly

Bumrah had been eagerly preparing to make his comeback to competitive cricket, and had been putting in hours of match-simulation training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. His aim was to obtain clearance from the NCA so that he could participate in upcoming matches, including the highly anticipated IPL.

Unfortunately, it seems that his plans have hit a roadblock, as the latest reports indicate that the medical staff at the NCA have recommended surgery as the most appropriate course of action. The BCCI is expected to make a decision on the matter soon and may release an official statement regarding Bumrah’s status. It is worth noting that the ODI World Cup is scheduled to take place in India in October and November, which adds an additional layer of complexity to the situation.
